Political Career:
In 1964, at age 13, Rajnath Singh joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and remained active. By 1972, at 21, he became Branch Organizing Secretary in Mirzapur. In 1974, he entered politics.
From 1969 to 1971, he served as Organizational Secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Gorakhpur. In 1972, he became Mahasachiv for the RSS Mirzapur branch.
In 1974, Singh became Secretary of the Mirzapur unit of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor to the BJP.
In 1975, at 24, he was District President of the Jana Sangh. In 1977, he was elected MLA from Mirzapur. Aligned with the JP Movement during the National Emergency, he faced arrest but was re-elected upon release.
Joining the BJP in 1980, Singh held key roles, becoming National President in 2005. He was also elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
Education Minister:
when the Bharatiya Janata Party formed its first government In 1991, in Uttar Pradesh, Rajnath Singh was appointed as the Education Minister. He served in this capacity for a tenure of two years.
Chief Ministership:
In 2000, Rajnath Singh became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Haidargarh in 2001 and 2002.
