Rajendra Prasad was born on 3 December 1884 in Ziradei village in the Siwan district of Bihar, India. He came from a deeply religious Hindu Kayastha family. His father, Mahadev Sahai, was a scholar of Persian and Sanskrit, and his mother, Kamleshwari Devi, was a devout homemaker who instilled values of simplicity and spirituality in him.
Prasad’s academic brilliance shone from an early age. He completed his initial education in Chapra and later attended the Calcutta Presidency College, where he earned a Master’s in Law with top honors. His educational journey laid the foundation for his illustrious career as a freedom fighter and leader.
Rajendra Prasad was a lawyer by profession but was deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi. He left his legal career to join India’s struggle for independence. A pivotal figure in the Indian National Congress, he played a crucial role in movements like the Non-Cooperation Movement and Civil Disobedience Movement.
Post-independence, Prasad was unanimously chosen as the President of the Constituent Assembly, which drafted India’s Constitution. In 1950, he was elected as the first President of India, a position he held with dignity and grace until 1962. He was the only Indian President to serve two terms.

Rajendra Prasad married with Rajvanshi Devi at a young age, as was customary during that era. Despite their traditional marriage, he upheld progressive views on women’s education and empowerment. The couple had children and lived a life deeply rooted in Indian traditions.
